Test Management solutions have evolved within the last 10 years. Today, you can not only set a test management system on your premises, you can even use a system as a SaaS (Software as a Service) solution, located on external vendor machines, and still enjoy all the privileges offered by this system.
What do we expect from A Test Management solution? Is it only a storage place of tests, or do we expect more of it? The answer is very simple. We want more…
We can divide our expectations from a Test Management solution into 4 areas of functionality:
Archive and Management functionalities, the ability to store every test, step, group, action, execution, etc. We want to be able to structure it in a way that is best for our methodology and specific testing project. Then, set it with tests on plan and execution levels, in a way that we will be able to track history and actions.
Planning Testing Cycles, planning test sessions is crucial. Especially in today’s Agile projects. Setting the schedules, assigning tests to testers, executing tests in a predefined order, and running again group of test (failed for example). Planning might include doing it according to requirements, cycles, versions, etc., We expect a test management solution to cover it all.
Integration functionalities, the ability to integrate with current external tracking systems, like defect tracking systems, requirement management systems, project management systems, etc., and on the other hand integrate it with implementation and execution testing tools application for automatic and hybrid scenarios. Integration is important for groups who have established processes and tools, and wish to add a test management solution without a need to change anything else while doing so.
Reporting functionalities, the ability to express status and overall results in few forms, groups and levels in a way that it will not only help the testers, but will also give the information required for decision makers to make educated and informed decisions.
Not many test management solutions stand within the above specifications, today we found one that does it all.
